Four of diamonds made their debut to the world when they formed on Season 13 of the X Factor. The dynamic girl group finished in 8th place but didn’t let that stop them from making music together. Since then, they’ve toured alongside Rita Ora, performed at Manchester Pride, and released a handful of catchy singles.

We caught up with Yasmin, Caroline, Lauren and Sophia to talk about their new single ‘Superstar’, what they’ve been up to in quarantine and much more!

Hi Ladies! How is quarantine life treating you all? Are you missing each other?

Yasmin: Hello! Quarantine life is surprisingly not as bad as we thought it was going to be… we are lucky that we can still do lots of work on social media, so we have really been using it to our advantage! We’ve all turned into pro bakers like half the nation lol and are making sure we get our daily exercise. I’m really enjoying this time to also do things I don’t usually do such as reading and meditating. The girls and I are missing each other so much though I can’t deny it. We’re constantly chatting on our group chat every day, but we just want to give each other a big squeeze. This is the longest amount of time we’ve been apart.

You all met on the X Factor in 2016, what made you want to go onto the show?

Caroline: We’ve all grown up watching the show since it started in 2004 and have seen so many stars make their dreams come true. It’s an incredible platform and fast track into the industry so we really wanted to give it a go. We would always dream of having an opportunity like this and it was an amazing experience! We wouldn’t have met each other without it so we are so grateful.

How does it feel when you hear your song on the radio?

Yasmin: It feels incredible when I hear our song on the radio. I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of the feeling. It makes me so happy. The best times are when you don’t expect to hear it and you’re just going about your daily life. The group chat goes crazy! Haha.

What else is the end goal for you as a band?

Caroline: We would love to go down in history as one of the most successful girl bands. We’re all about our music and would love to be recognised worldwide for having amazing songs and harmonies. The dream would be to have a succession of number one hits and to even win a Grammy, or two haha. We always think positively and dream big. We put our all into everything that we do.

What have you been doing to keep busy during quarantine?

Yasmin: To keep myself busy in quarantine I’ve been doing quite a lot! I was never really one for exercise but now I have so much time in the day I find myself going for morning runs and doing afternoon work outs. I said I wasn’t going to bake in quarantine either, but I caved yesterday and baked an apple crumble lol. I’m doing lots of reading and the girls and I are constantly coming up with new ideas for our socials. Oh, and how can I forget, Tiktok is also keeping us very busy and entertained.

What is the first thing you want to do once the restrictions are lifted?

Caroline: See each other, have massive hugs and cuddles and get back to work! We’re all very close and miss each other loads. We’ve never spent this long apart in all the time (nearly 4 years) that we’ve been together. We are excited to get out and finally do promo for our new music as well as get back in the studio and record more songs. We’re also looking forward to having a girl’s night in/sleepover as we love hanging out together. We’ve already decided that Lauren will be on cinnamon roll duty for dessert!

You signed up as solo singers, did you ever think you’d be part of a band?

Lauren: Do you know what, I don’t think I personally ever thought I’d end up in a band but my god I am SO happy I am. I genuinely think it’s so much more enjoyable in the industry when you can share the experiences with other people and bounce off of each other on stage and in music videos etc. I wouldn’t have it any other way now!

Who would be your dream collaboration?

Lauren: Haha we all have different ones, but my ultimate dream collaboration is Beyoncé or Destiny’s Child. Ultimate power girl band. However, on a more realistic level I would really love to collab with Dua Lipa, I think she’s so sick and a big British collab like that would be so nice!

Your new single ‘Superstar’ has recently been debuted, congratulations! Can you tell us a little bit about it?

Sophia: Thank you!! Ahh this song is a special one, we’ve been so excited to release it. I think it’s especially exciting for us because Jamelia’s ‘Superstar’ was a song we all grew up with and love so much, so when we got the opportunity to release our version with Joe Stone we were absolutely buzzing. It was so fun to record, too. It’s more of an up-beat dance vibe which is different to the rest of our music but follows on perfectly from our last single ‘Let Me Love You’. You can’t help but dance when you hear it and we love that!!!!

Are you working on anything else right now?

Sophia: We have something very exciting in the pipeline which we cannot WAIT to share. It’s been a long time coming and let me just say the video is EPIC!
